Weekly Reminder...
The Weekly Reminder is an informative tool to help people who read it consider what the man of God has said. This weekend’s articles are based on what was heard on May 9 & 10, 2009 in the Westbury assembly.written by Br. Samuel Damus
Every time we come into the house of the Lord there are words given for our benefit. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). This is only profitable if the words are believed and applied. We have a man of God in our midst every weekend which warns us of impeding danger just as Moses and the Prophets were given to us to hear the warnings of the Lord (Luke 16:29). It is important to “see that ye refuse not him that speaketh”.
Noah was a man that was given a message for the people of his time. The Lord told him that He was sending a flood to destroy all flesh because of their wickedness. Noah believed the words of the Lord and was making preparations for the time of evil to come. During this time of preparation he warned the people of his time but they did not believe him nor did they consider his preparation (which was visible to all) but continued to live their lives until the flood came (Luke 17:27). Jonah had a similar message, because of the sins of the people of Nineveh the Lord sent Jonah to tell them that in forty days He will destroy it. When the people of Nineveh heard Jonah’s warning, the scriptures say that they “believed God” and began to right their wrong. When “God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way”, He forgave them and did not destroy the city (Jonah 3:4-10). Unlike the days of Noah the people believed what the man of God was saying and made the changes in their life that was necessary to be saved.
Doing it God’s way will always result in us doing good works. The Lord has always made sure that we are provided with His good word. Parents are instructed by God to teach the children His words (Deuteronomy 6:7). We are also taught to encourage and admonish one another in the truth (Colossians 3:16). This is the love of God towards us so that we may be established “in every good word and work” (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17). David understood the importance of listening to a man of God in the church (Psalm 73). It wasn’t until he went into “the sanctuary of God” (verse 17) that he understood his thoughts were all wrong. He said, “Concerning the works of men, by the word of Thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer” (Psalm 17:4).
There are driving signs strategically place throughout our city and they are only helpful if we heed them. They keep us from harm and keep us from harming others. This is the same with the warnings we receive from the Lord and His servants. “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from Him that speaketh from heaven:” (Hebrews 12:25).
