Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Weekly Reminder...

The Weekly Reminder is an informative tool to help people who read it consider what the man of God has said. This weekend’s articles are based on what was heard on December 12 & 13, 2009 in the Westbury assembly.

There is a calling that is placed on every child of God and that calling is to live a life that is pleasing to God. When God found us, we were dead in our sins and our frame of mind was far off from the will of God. The apostle Paul said, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God” (Romans 3:10-11). All men have died and come short of the glory of God but God thru His love and mercy has called us and gave us an opportunity to live for Him. This opportunity is found thru believing in His Son Jesus Christ and obeying His words. That same opportunity is what enables us to live a righteous life before Him.

We come to the church bringing nothing good with us, when we first set our feet to the church we were blind. We were blind because we were not able within our own selves to follow the will of God. There was a time Adam, the first man created, was able to think as God because he was in the image of God. That image was lost when he disobeyed in eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God’s purpose for Adam was for him to live according to the commandments He gave him and as long as Adam was obeying the commandments, he would have possessed the right to life. God’s purpose for man has never stopped; the scripture says in Psalms 33:10 “The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of His heart to all generations”. The purpose of God for every generation is to walk according to His commandments. There is something about the commandments of God that can keep us in His will as we obey them. Thru the ages every servant that God has called, have walked according to His commandments. Why?

In Genesis 17:1 we find out the purpose of God for Abraham where the scripture said God appeared to Abraham and said “I am the Almighty God; walk before Me, and be thou perfect”. This perfect life that Abraham was to attain before God was to be accomplished only by obeying the word of God. As long as Abraham was walking or obeying the word of God, he was walking ‘perfectly’ before God. Abraham had blemishes because he lied by saying Sarah was not his wife to Abimelech in Genesis 20:2. This same Abraham found grace from God and God was going to make him walk perfect. This is possible because the will or the word of God is perfect (Psalms 19:7), the word of God is holy (Romans 7:12) and able to change any individual that God has called. God’s ways are not our ways but as we are following the ways of God, we find that thru His Holy Spirit, our thought process is also being changed to think like God. This means we are not walking according to the counsel of the ungodly; we are not standing in the way of sinners; nor sitting in the seat of the scornful but rather our delight in the law of God.

The young man in Mathew 19:16-21, could not walk perfect with Christ because he neglected to obey the word of Christ to him when Christ said “go sell all that you have and follow Me”. The young man could not obey Christ’s words; he could not do the will of God. Everyone that is to be saved must follow the commandments of God. This is why God raised prophets of old and now He is speaking to us thru His Son Christ Jesus because He wants a people that are walking in Him. This is why the church is so important for us in these last days because we need to know the will of God in order to walk righteous before Him. God has made provisions for His people by giving us ministers not to make us happy but their whole purpose is for the perfecting of the saints (Ephesians 4:11). When these ministers are operating we find that they are giving us the engrafted word that is able to save us and bring us to a position of maturity.

May God help us to walk before Him with fear and trembling.
