Weekly Reminder...
The Weekly Reminder is an informative tool to help people who read it consider what the man of God has said. This weekend’s articles are based on what was heard on December 19 & 20, 2009 in the Westbury assembly.written by Br. Samuel Philogene
“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil” (Hebrews 6:19).
Our hope is what keeps us focused on God, despising the cares of this life or whatever bad thing that comes our way. It helps us to continue on in our journey with God no matter what happens, no matter what others may think about us; most of the times we keep looking at the trials that we are facing instead of keeping the focus on the goal. Last weekend we learned that we should not look on the adversities that we are facing but unto Jesus and unto the promises that He gave us. Paul made a wonderful statement showing how even Jesus, when He came on earth, did not look on His trials but unto the goal that was set before Him. The apostle stated in Hebrews 12:2, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God”. So the focus must be on the goal that God has set before us, the hope of eternity (1 John 2:25). We can’t get further in God if we don’t have a vision, if our hope is not planted, steadfast (1 Peter 5:10), unmovable (Colossians 1:23) in the word of God (1 Corinthians 15:58), and it must be clear in front of us.
When Jesus came He knew the way that He had to go and what the Father had reserved for Him; He bore the cross so God exalted Him and gave Him the name that is above all other names (Ephesians 2:5-11). When God called us He gave us something to live for, to fight for, it is the wonderful hope of salvation, so when that is planted in our hearts we will be strong enough to run the race until we get it done. Most of the time people quit church just because they don’t realize that what God has in store for us is beyond imagination; a glorious and wonderful life is waiting for us in the eternal kingdom (2 Corinthians 4:16-18). Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:4 how that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter. We cannot imagine what he heard but such a vision came just to stabilize his faith and confirm his hope that one day he will be there with the Lord rejoicing eternally.
This message came in due time because sometimes the things of this world, what we miss in our daily lives may cause us to faint. Some of us give up on our hope while we are still in church (Revelation 2:4); this is the worst position for a child of God to be in, when we cannot see when things are going bad we give up on our faith but still come to church but you can tell we are not (giving it our all) there. May God help us to never reach that point but to know that what God promises us is far greater that what we are enduring right now. Like Paul said the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us (Romans 8:18). Without that hope which is an unmovable conviction that God will fulfill His promises, we won’t make it thru. All that we are enduring in this life should give us more confidence in the word of God and increase our faith when with patience we are waiting for God to accomplish what He has promised (Romans 5:3-5; 8:24).
