Weekly Reminder...
The Weekly Reminder is an informative tool to help people who read it consider what the man of God has said. This weekend’s articles are based on what was heard on October 3 & 4, 2009 in the Westbury assembly.written by Br. Jean Leonidas
David once said in the Psalms, “How amiable are thy tabernacles, O LORD of hosts” (Psalms 84). Surely the house of God gives us a pleasant atmosphere to be in. We had an opportunity to meet for several services over the weekend to learn of the Lord. These services are becoming more precious as the days goes by. The scripture says “man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Mathew 4:4). Our lives depend on the words that we hear when we come to the house of God. As the natural body depends on water to survive, so does our soul depend on the words of God.
We learned not to forsake the house of the Lord but to continually come to the house of God to drink from the fountain of life. We sang a song Saturday evening where we were asking the Lord to cause us to come to the river, then to drink of it and finally to live from it. The end result is that we want to have eternal life by continually to come to the house of God. May God help us to be counted worthy of such an honor. Each time our pastor or another minister gets up to speak, we are drinking of that spiritual water which is the word of God (Ephesians 5:26). Br. Smith was showing us in Jeremiah 13:2 where the people of God did not value the water they were receiving. The scripture says “For My people have committed two evils; they have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water”. Sometimes while we are in the church we can look at the world and say they are not God’s people but that scripture says “My people”. This shows just being in the church does not make us God’s people but we must be drinking from the cistern that the house of God has provided. As the people we should have a thirst in our lives for the word of God and that thirst should cause us to labor more and more for the work of God. David realized that and said in Psalms 42:1, “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after Thee, O God”. Br. Smith said “we should never leave the cistern of the church as Israel did. He quoted Psalms 73:27, where it showed us never to be far from God because those that are far from God will perish. We should never get to the point where we forsake God and try to seek another way of life. There is no way to the Christian life but thru Christ, because He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). Jesus is the only Door of the sheep (John 10:7) and anytime we seek any other way we are only moving further away from God.
Br. Antoine showed us how there is a way we can come back to the Lord if we find ourselves seeking after broken cisterns. He quoted Job 22:22 where it showed us we need to receive the word of God and lay it up in our hearts as David did (Psalms 119:11). Br. Antoine explained to us the quality we must have in order to inherit the kingdom of God. He said, “God is looking for quality people but not for quantity”. The spirit of God and the word of God must do the complete work in our lives in order for us to be ready at the return of Christ. He said that we should not wait for Christ to return then expect Christ to prepare us but all preparation must be done while we are in the church. Christ returned to His Father and has given us the five fold ministry to help us get ready for His return. He continued in showing us in Mathew 24: 1-3, how the disciples had a desire to find out their fate by asking Christ concerning the establishment of the coming kingdom. Br. Antoine used that scripture to emphasize how we should have that desire in us also concerning the coming kingdom of the Lord.
These messages gave me more encouragement to always abide in the house of God. The house of God is the closest thing we can have to the kingdom of God. It is where the spirit of just men are being made perfect (Hebrews 12:23). It is where I can find brotherly love, kindness and the precious word of God to direct my life. David said in Psalms 87:2 “The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob”. God has a preference of places to be and that is to be in the midst of His people when they gather together (Mathew 18:20).
May God help us that we never forsake the house of God but with joy continually drink of the wells of salvation (Isaiah 12).
