Weekly Reminder...
The Weekly Reminder is an informative tool to help people who read it consider what the man of God has said. This weekend’s articles are based on what was heard on September 12 & 13, 2009 in the Westbury assembly.written by Br. Samuel Philogene
It’s worth it to be righteous, to walk in the ways of God; we read last weekend that “the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord and He is their strength in time of trouble” (Psalm 37:39). It is commonly thought that no matter how we live, no matter where we go God is a merciful God and will always be there with us. But the word of God was showing us that the Lord will be the strength of the righteous (1 Peter 3:12). We all need God to be with us when trials come around but we must know beforehand that for God to be there for us we must live for Him first. We must obey His commandments so when we need Him we will just call upon His name and He will surely be there to help us.
Br. Antoine read the scripture in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose”. We already know that to love God is not just in word but those that love God are those that keep His commandments (John 14:21); keeping the commandments of God is key. Br. Antoine asked us many times how can we walk righteously? His answer was by taking heed to the word that we are receiving; only the word of God can make us walk righteously before God. The Psalmist asked the same question in Psalms 119:9, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to Thy word”. There is no confusion in the word of God; by applying the word of God in our lives we walk and talk according to what we’ve learned showing our righteousness in God.
Righteousness is not how we feel it should be but what the bible says. The Jews were trying to serve God according to their own righteousness but their own righteousness could not please God. Paul stated in Romans 10:3, “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God”. We can not afford to be unaware of what God wants from us, to be honest we can’t say that we are ignorant of the will of God because continually God has provided us with His words thru the man of God. When we refuse the word or reject whom God has sent we then try to serve God with our own concepts which are an abomination before God. If we want God to be with us and deliver us from all evil we must take His word and live by them. God is clear on how He wants us to walk before Him. Br. Antoine mentioned steps that we must all take in order to be righteous for God. “God wants us to flee the lust of the world but to follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (1 Timothy 2:22). We can’t be righteous by living according to the principles of the world; we know that the love of the world is enmity of God (1 John 2:15).
May God help us to live for Him, to walk in His ways so God will be with us when we call upon Him.
