Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

Salvation

Weekly Reminder

Weekly Reminder...

The Weekly Reminder is an informative tool to help people who read it consider what the man of God has said. This weekend’s articles are based on what was heard on November 7 & 8, 2009 in the Westbury assembly.

“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall. For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:10-11).

As a child of God we must be able to evaluate ourselves to see where we stand with God and what needs to be done to get closer to Him daily because before the end we must know that our salvation is sure. We read last weekend how we must be awake because the salvation is nearer than when we believed. We must come to a point where we can see if we are moving with God, if we are getting closer to the salvation or if we still remain in the same position where we were years ago. We are called to grow in God, to walk daily toward our salvation, like Paul says to work out our own salvation (Philippians 2:11-13).

To evaluate ourselves we must know where we are coming from (past), where we are now (present) and where we are going (future). We know where we are from, from Adam; we inherited a sinful nature (1 Corinthians15:20-22), dead and trespassed in sin (Ephesians 2:1-5). We also know where we are now, we’ve been resurrected by the blood that Jesus shed on Calvary and now we are in heavenly places with Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). We know where we are going: unto perfection (Hebrews 6:1). So we can make an evaluation to see what we lack to get there and what needs to be changed. We can see the progression toward salvation in the life of Paul who once was an enemy of the church (Philippians 3:4-6) but one day he received a touch from God (Acts 9), then he started a new journey with a new vision, a new goal (verse 15-16). Paul reached the point where he could look behind and can see all that he had left and can also see ahead. He said it very well in Philippians 3:14, “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. He wasn’t guessing about where he had to go but he was sure of the way left to go; he knew exactly where he was in God and what he needed to do to get closer to that great salvation which is in Christ Jesus. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before” (Philippians 3:13).

This holds true for us today saints of God; we have to get to the point where we can sincerely realize where we were in time past, what God has done in our lives and where we stand (whether we are moving in God or if we are stagnant). We must grow in God because we have to get ready before the day of the Lord’s return. Salvation is a reality, making our salvation sure is a daily process which starts when we acknowledge the death of Jesus, accept His blood to wash our sins away and to walk righteously before God; this is our progression towards salvation. The word of God is here to lead the way; to show us what we need to change in our lives and what God expects from us in each step of this life-time journey. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 shows us that we are well equipped to get there; if we apply the word of God it will help us to achieve eternal life (1 Peter 1:3-4). “There is no other way” like the song said, if we live for God today it will surely lead us to the kingdom of our Lord and Savior.
